This is the original picture, before it was enhance.

This is the after picture, where I enhanced it making it look clearer and not over exposed.

Gregrory Crewdson's artworks are very playful and add this surreal effect using realistic objects and people. The settings for some of his pieces come from a room found inside a home which makes it personal however it seems exploited by showing it to the audience. Teun Hocks gives the same type of effect as Crewdson's work, using strange juxtapositions in his work and making it surreal. I enjoy Cindy Sherman's work, she poses in her own artwork as a self portrait but not as herself rather than different roles of women. It is interesting seeing how the same person can have different identities. Jeff Wall's work is interesting, it seems like the characters are from a different era and they are staged in a bizarre way. They seem off but very appealing to the mind, as if the audience is attracted to it because they want to figure out what the work is about.
All four artist give this whimsical and surreal effect to the audience which makes it more alluring to the eye.

Week 2: Blog 2 Artist talk

The art show Inherited Traits presented work from Nina Katchadourian and Heidi Kumao was entertaining and focused on the idea of "family." Nina Katchadourian presented three artworks and the one that stood out the most for me was Genealogy of the Supermarket, which is a wall instillation with 90 framed photographs. Katchadourian explained that the main focus of the artwork is that consumers have created a personal connection with these iconic figures that are used on the labels. She presented this point of view by having a large wall with photographs spread out properly, creating a family tree that just about everyone in the audience can relate to. It certainly questions our process of buying food. As for Heidi Kumao, the artwork I found most appealing is Transplant; the video installation is beautifully tied up with the DVD player, projector, the bell jar, and paper id tag. Kumao layered her ideas of the Japanese Americans during WWII and the experience they went through by being forced to create gardens. The different elements certainly create an attraction from the audience and an emotional depiction.
Overall the show and artist talk was entertaining and the artwork presented certainly gave the audience a chance of their own interpretation and clear connection to the artist and artwork.

Week 2: Blog 1

This picture was taken at an outdoor gallery called Grounds for Sculpture. The sculpture is connected by points and creates a beautiful 3d effect. This artwork is an example of an active plane and passive point.
